Man fatally struck in the head overnight near the House of Blues in the River North neighborhood, police said.
A 47-year-old man was fatally struck Wednesday night by someone asking for money near the House of Blues in the River North neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 11:30 p.m., the man was walking in the 300 block of North Dearborn Street when he was approached by two people who asked for money. One of the men struck the victim with a closed fist and he fell to the ground, police said.
Officers discovered the man lying unresponsive on the sidewalk, and he was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a head injury, but was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.
As of Thursday morning, the victim. had not been identified.
No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
