A disturbing incident at a New Jersey zoo drew attention after a visitor crossed a protective barrier and approached a Bengal tiger enclosure.
The incident took place at Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton on August 18, 2024.
According to local authorities, video footage showed a woman entering a restricted area, approaching the enclosure, and reaching through the wire fence toward the animal.
The tiger suddenly moved toward her, prompting the woman to quickly pull her hand away and step back.
Bridgeton Police later released images and video of the encounter while attempting to identify the visitor.
Zoo officials emphasized the importance of respecting safety barriers, explaining that they exist to protect both visitors and animals.
Authorities subsequently identified the woman and announced charges related to the incident.
Fortunately, the encounter did not result in a reported serious injury.
The incident served as another reminder that even a brief decision to cross a zoo safety barrier can have dangerous consequences.
Wild animals should always be observed from designated visitor areas, and zoo safety instructions should never be ignored.
